Going out in Chamonix at night — must-see bars & clubs
Our selection of places to have a drink, dance or extend the evening — curated by the Chalet Hotel concierge Jeu de Paume.
Chamonix has two lives. By day, it's a town for mountaineers, skiers, families, and climbing parties setting off at 5 a.m. By night, it's something else entirely. A vibrant, international nightlife unlike anywhere else at this altitude. Here are our favorite spots for going out, having a drink, or extending the evening—chosen by the concierge of the Chalet Hotel Jeu de Paume, ten minutes from the centre.
The aperitif — where to start the evening
First things first: an aperitif. For travelers staying at Jeu de Paume, chalet bar is a natural starting point. Homemade cocktails, macerated alpine plants, high-altitude spirits: the cocktail menu Rosebud plays on unexpected notes (lemon génépi, gin with cut hay, homemade vermouth). In summer, the brazier lights up in the gardens in the golden light — slow atmosphere, voices settling, first stars.
On the central side, the terraces of the Balmat Square and the Joseph Vallot Street What remains are the classics of the Chamonix pre-evening — crowded in high season, and that's precisely what we're looking for.
The bars — international in the heart of the Alps
Chamonix attracts an international crowd every season — British, Scandinavians, Italians, EspaGermans, Australians, Americans. The city's bars have adapted. Room Neuf, a legendary après-ski spot, offers live concerts and an electrifying atmosphere. Elevation 1904 is the cozy streetside address, pints and burgers, perfect for after a hike. Chamonix Microbrewery brews its own beers, terrace open in summer. For a quieter drink, Annapurna Café offers a lounge atmosphere with a wide selection of cocktails and whiskies.
The clubs — for dancing until the early hours

And then — return to the calm of Lavancher
The advantage of Le Lavancher, after an evening in the town center, is precisely the peace and quiet you can enjoy. A ten-minute taxi ride takes you back to the tranquility of the hamlet, a four-star room, and a bathrobe waiting at the foot of the bed. Our concierge can arrange transportation (taxi or private vehicle) at the time of booking. For those who prefer a quiet evening without going downtown, the bar at Jeu de Paume and the fire pit in the gardens does the job - or even better, given the view that opens up onto the peaks at nightfall.
